Some of you may remember Elvis (formerly Sonny). Elvis was the little guy who was picked up in Marion, Arkansas on Easter by a wonderful woman, Haley (who happens to be a vet tech in Memphis). Elvis and his sister had apparently been left to fend for themselves.
"I found them wandering down a country road about 2-3 miles from the nearest house, they had been down in a swampy like area trying to stay cool and were covered in mud walking down the middle of the road. They were so happy to be found and slept the entire way back to the hospital, they were so exhausted. They are still pretty skinny but eating well. When we did their initial exam one of them had just lost a baby tooth, but still have mainly baby teeth. They are staying at the hospital until I can find them a home. They are really sweet and doing really well at not using the restroom in the kennel or inside... They love to play together and have their little bellies scratched. Haley"
Haley and the staff at the vet clinic were commited to finding these babies homes. Although it took over a month, Elvis' sister, Honey, was adopted (leaving him all alone). Then good news came a few weeks later...someone wanted Elvis (a client at the clinic, so surely it was a good home...).
Well it turns out that Haley was out of town when this transpired and when she came back in town she checked up on this boy. Poor Elvis had been living outside in the 95-100+ degree temperatures all by himself!!! Devastated at the news, Haley demanded they bring Elvis back to the clinic.
Then another miracle happened... our wonderful rescue partner in Wisconsin, OARS, agreed to give this baby a second chance (well actually 3rd or 4th chance)! So on July 28th, this adorable little guy made his way North!

Now the best news of all...I received this email from Amy with OARS a few days ago along with the picture below:
"Last Friday we added a new member to our family. Baxter (mutt but has coon hound, retriever and maybe sheppard in him) is 9 months old. He is a very sweet dog, socialized and is having a ball playing with Clide (cat) and Riley."
That's right...Elvis (now Baxter) FINALLY has a fur-ever home thanks to Lynn and Jaime and their son, Brice. We couldn't be happier for him.
YESH for Baxter and all the dogs you work so hard to help! You and OARS ROCK!
ReplyDeleteGo Brice, Uncle Jamie, and Aunt lynn! Cant wait to meet Baxter!:):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):)
