IT NEVER ENDS...MORE DOGS IN NEED (5 SHIH TZU PUPS THIS TIME!)

***UPDATE 8/27/10: Thanks to tremendous efforts by many people (Diana, Amy, Beth, Kelly, and everyone else who posted on FB), we have found foster homes for these babies! 3 will remain in the mid-South until healthy enough to be adopted, 1 will go to St. Louis, and 1 may go to Wisconsin to a Shih Tzu rescue (we are waiting on confirmation).

We desperately need funds for these babies because the rescue groups cannot cover the costs and we are having to charge the vet bill at this point***

5 Shih Tzus abandoned in an apartment- owner left them with no food or water...

Condensed version: These 5 sweeties (4 males and 1 female) are hw neg and have had (2) 7-in-1 shots, rabies, have been wormed, and have had bordetella. They will still need to be neutered and spayed. The pictures below show what they looked like with hair and some were taken the other day at the vet clinic. They have been neglected for some time. They had fecal matter in their hair (some are very matted and some have major hair loss due to flea dermatitis). 3 of the 5 suffered from anemia due to the heavy flea infestation and hookworms/whipworms. 1 (Frankie) was so anemic he had to have a blood transfusion or he would died (he was in shock when he arrived at the vet's office on Saturday). They removed the IVs today and he is doing well so far. All are between the ages of 2 and 6. This is the only info we know about personality/ages so far:

Frankie is very friendly, he gets along with most other dogs and people, he does bark when someone comes to the door or he hears a strange sound, Good Security Dog and only about 15 pds. He has big round gorgeous eyes that just beckon you to play or pet. Chocolate and White, might be some brindle if cut short under all that hair, he was born Dec.10, 2005 and is "VERY HOUSE BROKEN". Loves Attention, is in very bad need of lap to lay in. Gets along with other dogs and cats, kids ok.

How can you help? First and foremost, we are looking for foster homes asap. They are being boarded temporarily but need homes by THIS SATURDAY (do not need to go together). We do not want them exposed to any illnesses while their immune systems are compromised. If you know someone who would like to adopt any of them, let me know and we will send (email) an application. There will be an adoption fee to help cover the medical costs and to ensure they get good homes.

We are having to vet all 5 of them, so any financial assistance would be appreciated. Frankie's bill for the blood transfusion alone is over $400. We estimate the bill will run $800 not including their spay and neuters. The vet does not want them to undergo surgery until they get a bit healthier (i.e., no longer anemic, gain some weight, etc.). Please ask co-workers, friends, facebook friends, etc. We have foster applications as well as adoption applications available if interested.

A chip in has been started to help these sweet babies, so please consider donating even a small amount!
