SHIH TZU PUPS ARE COMING AROUND...CHECK OUT SPANKY AND RASCAL!

Well the poor abandoned Shih Tzu babies are even closer to finding forever homes thanks to a team of angels. All 5 were "freed" from the vet clinic on Saturday and are enjoying their foster homes (thanks Amy and Sharon for fostering them). A HUGE thank you to Diana for paying their vet bill until we can find sponsors (hint hint...Diana is out a TON of money so please chip in below).

Kevin and I are fostering Spanky and Rascal. temporarily. Both will be going to St. Louis over Labor Day to be fostered there until forever homes can be found. These boys are as precious as they look. They can't get enough affection- and give it too!

All of the boys are taking an iron supplement for their anemia (due to the flea infestation and internal parasites) and will be able to be neutered in about a week. Pebbie (the only female) has been spayed and is currently recovering. We will post pictures of the other 3 as soon as we receive them from their foster parents. Check out new pictures of Spanky and Rascal below! If you did not see what they looked like "before", check out the blog post below:

Poor Spanky leaving the vet clinic (a bit unsure right now, but before long he will be "free")

Isn't he just precious!

This boy loves to cuddle and give kisses!

Resting after running around the yard!

This is his "worried look" (taken just after arriving at his foster home)

How can you not love this face?!

Rascal...we know: ADORABLE!

All of these precious pups are so loving and just crave affection!

He's a gorgeous little guy isn't he!

Like a new dog- he was soooo happy after his grooming!
Please consider donating SOMETHING to their vet bill as Diana has had to pay over $1200 for these 5 babies. We will not be able to find adopters to cover the entire bill so any amount will help.

SPANKY AND CHAMPY FROM OSCEOLA MADE IT "HOME" (VERMONT)!

A few weeks ago Spanky and Champy from the Osceola Animal Shelter in Arkansas made their way to Vermont via Peterson Express Transport Service or PETS (as seen on the TV show Last Chance Highway). Both of these boys have hit the jackpot as far as homes go and we are so thankful for everyone involved in their rescue!

Want to help us make even more happy tails? Foster a dog or puppy in need for just 3 weeks and you can! We can provide everything you need if necessary...you just provide the love and an indoor home!

Spanky comes out first!

Spanky's new family- how wonderful!

How exciting to be on this end of it!

Look closely- that's Champy peeking his head out!

Sorry Monica for the couch thing...oops

Champy is smiling now!

IT NEVER ENDS...MORE DOGS IN NEED (5 SHIH TZU PUPS THIS TIME!)

***UPDATE 8/27/10: Thanks to tremendous efforts by many people (Diana, Amy, Beth, Kelly, and everyone else who posted on FB), we have found foster homes for these babies! 3 will remain in the mid-South until healthy enough to be adopted, 1 will go to St. Louis, and 1 may go to Wisconsin to a Shih Tzu rescue (we are waiting on confirmation).

We desperately need funds for these babies because the rescue groups cannot cover the costs and we are having to charge the vet bill at this point***

5 Shih Tzus abandoned in an apartment- owner left them with no food or water...

Condensed version: These 5 sweeties (4 males and 1 female) are hw neg and have had (2) 7-in-1 shots, rabies, have been wormed, and have had bordetella. They will still need to be neutered and spayed. The pictures below show what they looked like with hair and some were taken the other day at the vet clinic. They have been neglected for some time. They had fecal matter in their hair (some are very matted and some have major hair loss due to flea dermatitis). 3 of the 5 suffered from anemia due to the heavy flea infestation and hookworms/whipworms. 1 (Frankie) was so anemic he had to have a blood transfusion or he would died (he was in shock when he arrived at the vet's office on Saturday). They removed the IVs today and he is doing well so far. All are between the ages of 2 and 6. This is the only info we know about personality/ages so far:

Frankie is very friendly, he gets along with most other dogs and people, he does bark when someone comes to the door or he hears a strange sound, Good Security Dog and only about 15 pds. He has big round gorgeous eyes that just beckon you to play or pet. Chocolate and White, might be some brindle if cut short under all that hair, he was born Dec.10, 2005 and is "VERY HOUSE BROKEN". Loves Attention, is in very bad need of lap to lay in. Gets along with other dogs and cats, kids ok.

How can you help? First and foremost, we are looking for foster homes asap. They are being boarded temporarily but need homes by THIS SATURDAY (do not need to go together). We do not want them exposed to any illnesses while their immune systems are compromised. If you know someone who would like to adopt any of them, let me know and we will send (email) an application. There will be an adoption fee to help cover the medical costs and to ensure they get good homes.

We are having to vet all 5 of them, so any financial assistance would be appreciated. Frankie's bill for the blood transfusion alone is over $400. We estimate the bill will run $800 not including their spay and neuters. The vet does not want them to undergo surgery until they get a bit healthier (i.e., no longer anemic, gain some weight, etc.). Please ask co-workers, friends, facebook friends, etc. We have foster applications as well as adoption applications available if interested.

A chip in has been started to help these sweet babies, so please consider donating even a small amount!

NEW ARRIVAL FAITH NEEDS A LOVING FAMILY!

Meet Faith...an absolutely gorgeous yellow lab who wandered into our lives. My husand was outside in the yard when our neighbor came over asking him for help with a dog that had collapsed behind their house in an empty lot. Kevin ran over there and found this precious girl nearly lifeless. The temperature was nearly 110 with the heat index. He immediately scooped her up and carried her into our air conditioned home.
Who can resist this face?!
Faith slowly began to recover. She began to drink water and later even ate some chicken and rice that I had cooked when I arrived home. This precious girl has now been with us over a week. She has not left either of our sides since then either! Faith is an amazing girl. All she wants is to be by your side. She has recently had puppies (although her milk is completely dry now) and other than a few ticks and fleas and some missing hair (likely due to fleas), she appears in pretty good health.

Faith will be going to the vet this week for vaccinations and to be heartworm tested (we pray that she is negative, but there is a good chance she will be positive as she has likely lived outside). We are guessing she is about 4 years old. She is a doll...seriously. Not one single accident and she isn't even crated! Faith is currently staying in our "computer room" and she loves to sleep on her dog bed (sometimes the couch too...). We take turns letting her hang out in the family room as well and she loves it! She truly will make the best companion in the world. We hope that she can find a home with someone who has time to spend with her. She is like a sponge right now, she is thoroughly enjoying belly rubs and just general affection. Faith would make the perfect family dog! Oh and she gets along with every dog she comes in contact with!

Not so crazy about bathtime at first, but she got the hang of it!
She has the most beautiful coloring too!
Please call Allison at 901-240-9848 if you would like to find out more about this precious girl!

BLUE, WINSTON, AND TOOTIE ARRIVED SAFELY UP NORTH ON SATURDAY!

We are just elated that Blue, Winston, and Tootie arrived safely up north yesterday! Blue was the gorgeous boy that was hit by a car and left to die (thanks to Tara, Shirlee, and Diana for saving this boy). Winston and Tootie were from the Osceola Animal Shelter. These two spent months in the shelter and were fostered together by foster extraordinaire, Teresa. These lucky pups even made their trip north together! We will update you as we receive new information!

WISHING CHAMPY AND COREY (AKA SPANKY) THE VERY BEST!

On Thursday, I loaded sweet Champy and Corey (aka Spanky) on Peterson Express Transport System (PETS Transport). Yes... the very same transport featured on Animal Planet's Last Chance Highway along with our friend and fellow rescuer, Shelly Bookwalter. I even saw Shelly at transport and joked with her about getting her autograph!

It was bittersweet to put these loveable boys on transport though...it's always sad to put them on knowing they are going to be in a crate for so long, but we know they are well cared for on there! Plus, you think about the wonderful families that are waiting for their new family member! We know these 2 couldn't be in better hands! I just found out today that Champy and Corey will live very close to each other- what a small world!

These pups will arrive at their destination around 1:00 on Saturday. We hope to see pictures in their new homes soon! Thank you Brigitte, Deb, and Laura once again!
Big thanks to Paula, Sissy, and Jane for taking such great care of these two for so long at the shelter! We are grateful to the families of these two precious pups for agreeing to adopt these two without even meeting them first- talk about angels!

Champy and Corey on their way to transport!

Champy was a wonderful house guest for 2 weeks!

That's what you are getting on boys!

Happy tails!

Corey enjoying the fan- so glad I brought them because it was 102 degrees when they got on!

Champy was pleased with the fan too!

These two are all the way in the back on the bottom (away from the heat of the door thankfully)

If you are able to volunteer as a short-term foster parent (few weeks or so), please let us know. Foster homes are what make all of this possible!

MORE GOOD NEWS!

Just received word today that Tootie AND Winston both have homes waiting for them up north!!! They will be on their way to their new homes next Thursday!!! After waiting over a month, we now have 4 dogs leaving within a week of each other- way to go Brigitte and Deb!!!

Thanks again to our wonderful foster moms, Teresa and Laura. Without you guys, we couldn't do what we do! Even more good news came today...my wonderful friend and fellow dog rescuer, Diana, just received news that her precious Blue may be rescued next week as well! I have included some pictures of this sweet boy as a reminder! It's just amazing what can happen when people work together!

Blue in the hospital after being hit by a car and left for dead...

Blue with his doggy angel, Diana, who paid for all of his vetting and loves him like one of her own! A big thanks to Shirlee for fostering this sweetie for Diana!

How precious is this boy!

We desperately need indoor foster homes for a few weeks. We have many dogs waiting to be rescued AND rescues willing to take them IF we can get them into an indoor loving home for a few weeks.

We are also looking for help on transport day (Thursdays). The transport leaves Memphis around 12:45-1:00 pm (near Summer/White Station). Because many of our fosters work, we are looking for volunteers to either keep the dog(s) leaving overnight the night before or meet the foster early in the morning and take them to the transport. Even if you can just help out once a month that would be great (or even just once!). For any volunteer housing dogs or transporting dogs, we will need you to fill out some background information and perhaps be open to a home visit as well. This is to ensure the safety of our dogs (I hope you understand).

Check back soon for pictures of adorable adoptables from the Osceola Animal Shelter! We ask that you please share their pictures with your friends, co-workers, e-mail lists. You never know who may be up for a new family member- networking does work!

CATCHING UP....

Well we just got back from vacation last night, so we are playing "catch up" with all the news. On HUGE positive is that Champy and Spanky both have homes waiting for them and are scheduled to leave for Vermont next Thursday!!! Plus, Tootie has a potential adopter as well!

We do not have any expressed interest for Andy or Winston and these boys are ready to go (our partner rescue in is working on it though)! Please share their pictures with friends/family. Andy is the yellow lab mix and he is a very active boy who loves to romp and play. . His foster dad, AJ, summarized his progress below:

"He's doing alright with my dogs, and I think he'd be fine with younger dogs, but my dogs being almost 11 are a bit "intolerant" of his constant playing. He's doing great with the housebreaking, and he goes outside most of the time (he still has the occasional accident). He loves his rawhide chews and his toys. He's getting really good at both fetch and tug-of-war too. I think he'll make a great pup for a family with school-age children, but I'm thinking he might be a bit too energetic for a family with a newborn or a toddler. He's most assuredly a cuddler, and once he gets attached, he'll stay right by your side all day..."

Winston is pictured below (although these were taken over a month ago and his hair is coming in nicely now -we hope to get new pics of him very soon). Winston is a playful boy who is doing great in his foster home. He loves to play with his foster buddies and is completely crate trained!
