PLEASE HELP LAYLA FIND A LOVING HOME!

UPDATE 6/07/10: Layla's foster mom, Jennifer, is coordinating with a rescue group to hopefully take her in if she can receive heartworm treatment. Your donations are helping to make this happen!

Please crosspost- I am trying to help a friend, Jennifer, find somewhere for sweet Layla to go because she cannot keep her. She emailed a boxer rescue but has not yet heard back. Jennifer's email is below:

I found this sweet girl on Tuesday and found her owner Wednesday. He went on to tell me that he got her off of craigslist 2 months ago with the sole intention to breed her. I told him she was spayed and he then told me he didn't want her and wasn't even stressed about her being gone and wasn't really looking for her when he came across the ad I placed on craigslist. He also put her outside because she drools too much! I just don't understand some people. I took her to the vet yesterday to try and figure out why she is so thin, she has heartworms. I can not keep her and don't believe I can find her a home given her current condition. The vet said she's 5+ years old, she's house broken gets along with my children and other dog. If you can't help maybe you could give me information as to who may be able to. Jennifer

Call 901-603-0543 or 901-240-9848 if you can help her!

She would LOVE for her to go to a legitimate rescue, but will consider private adoption WITH an approved application (especially since she has been through so much). Please consider donating even a small amount toward Layla's medical care- every little bit counts

FOSTER HOMES NEEDED THIS SUMMER!

School is out and older kids could use something to do. Have you ever thought about becoming a foster family for a pup in need? It is a wonderful opportunity to teach compassion to your children as well as responsibility. We would LOVE to help save more dogs/puppies, but we have no foster homes free at the moment.

We have a Rescue Group that is willing to take many of the dogs and puppies that sit in shelters in the Mid-South (most won't make it out...). We could fill the bus (so to speak) if we just had some foster homes. The dogs/puppies cannot go on transport north to their new homes without being in a home (i.e., out of a shelter environment) for a minimum of 2 weeks. Won't you please considered providing a temporary home for a pup in need? We will do our best to provide everything that is needed if you need assistance (food, crate, etc.). You truly would be saving a life.

We have a foster application that we will email to you or can send one via snail mail. Thank you for considering this wonderful gift and please talk to co-workers, friends, and family about this wonderful opportunity!

Please email Allison at allieot98@yahoo.com if you are interested or call 901-240-9848.

ANOTHER PUPPY RUN IN THE WORKS!

We are excited to report yet another "Puppy Run" scheduled for this weekend thanks to our friends in Wisconsin!!! This weekend, the rest of the hound mix puppies (all 7) will have their chance at new lives! A cute little Cairn terrier mix, Lewis, will also be amongst the lucky ones. We are so appreciative of everyone's help!

Other great news- if you remember Hudson from the last rescue trip (adorable black lab puppy), we have another rescue group that is going to save his 4 siblings from the Osceola Animal Shelter! It's going to be a great weekend/week for sure!

PRAYERS NEEDED

Yesterday the City of West Memphis lost 2 of their finest, Officer Bill Evans and Sgt Brandon Paudert (son of the Police Chief, Bob Paudert), in a senseless shooting during a routine traffic stop.

A second shootout occured in the West Memphis Walmart parking lot shortly thereafter, resulting in the death of both suspects (45 year old Jerry Kane and his 16 year old son Joseph) as well as injuries to 2 more of West Memphis' finest, Crittenden County Deputy Chief W.A. Wren and Crittenden County Sheriff Dick Busby. Please say a prayer for all families involved. It is still unknown why the suspects opened fire during the traffic stop.

A fur-baby needs your prayers as well. A female black lab inside the suspect's van was also shot and killed, but the male lab seen on video jumping out of the van has survived his injuries (shot multiple times in the leg and stomach) and is recovering from surgery at the West Memphis Animal Shelter/Humane Society. The surviving dog has been named Valor in honor of the slain officers. He will be needing a foster home to recuperate in if anyone would like to help.

HANGING OUT IN THE LOU

It was a gorgeous day in St. Louis! All the pups settled in in their temporary foster homes. We are incredibly grateful to the following people for allowing these cuties to bunk for the night: Kelly (Chin Chin); Janice & Haley (Tux, Lilac, Trixie); Mel & Martha (Hudson, Snoopy); and Carrie (Atticus, Minnie, Maizey).

Pictured below are Allie and Kevin with their beloved Tux (Tux was fostered for 1 1/2 years and will be greatly missed). Tux was yet another pup who used to be heartworm positive and now has a second chance thanks to our friends in Wisconsin and generous sponsors that helped fund his treatment! Hazel is heartworm positive as well (much gratitude Diana for funding her treatment, allowing her to be "rescued"- you are an angel to so many). A special thanks to Amy in Wisconsin for giving the "green light" on all these precious souls- you should be so very proud (especially for putting up with us...lol)! Lastly, thanks to all the volunteers in Wisconsin who have played such an integral part in saving all of these fur-souls. No kidding...you are our lifeline.

Tux loves his daddy
Haley and Janice with precious Lilac
Kevin with gorgeous Hazel

Allie had to get one last picture with Hazel too- what a gorgeous and sweet girl!

Atticus and Minnie checking out the yard they get to romp and play in

These 3 stick together- they had a blast running around the yard
Hudson resting with Lilac- sooo adorable

Nothing like hanging out with puppies
Tux is just taking it all in
Kelly (Allie's sister in St. Louis and volunteer extraordinaire) with Kevin

Allie with Linda and Beth (these ladies are UNBELIEVABLE! They volunteered to drive from Wisconsin to pick up our babies for the rescue group)!

Oh and they didn't come empty-handed either- thanks to our friends up North, more pups will have full bellies!
Linda and Beth can't resist Hudson either!

Dinner at Mulligan's. Pictured is Allie with her sisters, Kelly and Lisa (all animal lovers of course).
Linda's genius set up- all to fit more fur-babies in the vehicle! Thanks to her, we could fit 3 more little ones in!
Goodbye Linda and Beth...hope to see you soon (HEE HEE). We love you guys!
Goodbye St. Louis...you too will be missed!

PIT STOP: SOMEWHERE IN MISSOURI

Allie and Kevin stopped after a few hours for water/potty breaks. All the pups did great once they got used to the leash! Maizey wasn't too fond of the leash initially, but learned very quickly.

One of the cutest pictures: Lilac snuggling with Snoopy (click on the pic for an enlarged view)!
She is smitten with this boy!

Can't resist snuggles from Kevin either!

Minnie isn't sure what to think about this 2 legged creature petting her!

Maizey and Minnie being affectionate with each other

Minnie is catching a scent

Look at Maizey's precious eyes

Trixie is ready to play!

It's amazing how affectionate and resilient they are

Snoopy thinks no one can see him (we won't tell)

Some much needed exercise with Kevin

Little Lilac should be in commercials (Cottonelle maybe?)!

Come on...lets play already!
Hudson acts like he's shy...we all know better!

Did you know that BLACK dogs are often the last to be adopted and amongst the first to be put to sleep in shelters? Thanks to rescue groups, puppies like Hudson have a chance!

Hudson is going to be incredibly handsome when he grows up!

You can almost smell the puppy breath!

Chin Chin is an absolute angel- hard to believe she only weighed 3 pounds not long ago!

Enjoying the break...

Atticus may be big, but he's just a big baby!

Kevin just can't help himself- they're all so loveable!

PIT STOP: OSCEOLA, ARKANSAS

These have to be 2 of the most adorable puppies we have ever seen! We stopped in Osceola to pick up Lilac (gorgeous yellow lab pup) and Hudson (handsome black lab mix pup). They found themselves in the Osceola Animal Shelter about 4 weeks earlier. Sadly, we had to leave 4 of Hudson's siblings behind. We are determined to help them too and may have a rescue to take them already!
This has to be the cleanest and most organized shelter we have ever seen- way to go gals! Thank you Sissy and Paula for taking such great care of the homeless pups!
What a beauty...Hudson
On the road again...

LOADING UP...MEET THE LUCKY ONES!

On Friday morning, Allie and Kevin met Amy and Jeanne to load up the first group of lucky pups who were heading north to "rescue". Pictured: Jeanne (grey shirt), Amy (orange shirt), and Allie (striped shirt).

Jeanne sent 3 adorable little dogs who were scheduled to be euthanized at a shelter in Memphis due to overcrowding. Pictured below: Chin Chin, Trixie, and Snoopy.

Amy sent 3 of her adorable hound-mix puppies (7 more of the litter are still awaiting rescue at her home). Pictured below: gentle giant Atticus; shy, but sweet Maizey; and beautiful Minnie.
Allie and Kevin sent their long-term fosters, Tux and Hazel. Along the way, they picked up 2 more lucky fur-babies from the Osceola Animal Shelter (they too, have many adorable pups awaiting rescue). Precious Tux likes to keep one paw on you in the car!
